MTMS Summer Recitals, Gahanna

Our MTMS Summer Recitals were a sunny, smashing success with plenty of good music and fun times. Students enrolled in private music lessons at our Gahanna campus performed songs they had been working on throughout the summer. The weekend started on Friday evening, with a debut piano performance of a “Twilight” medley, followed by outstanding numbers by our very own Advanced Flute Choir. Moving into the Saturday and Sunday performances, we saw everything from piano to guitar to violin to drums to flute. We heard popular music sung by students in voice lessons, ranging from Taylor Swift to Adele to musical theatre numbers. One of the highlights of the weekend was the “Star Wars” theme song, performed on piano by Brenden in his Darth Vader costume, while his younger sister Kiki stood by in her Storm Trooper costume, holding Brenden’s light saber. Judging by the tone of the music coming from Brenden’s piano, little Kiki had that light saber ready for battle.

MTMS Polaris: Grand Opening!

MTMS Polaris held its Grand Opening celebration on Sunday afternoon, September 15th.  Guests participated in a scavenger hunt, crafts and other activities for children, cornhole and limbo tournaments, and hourly raffles with prizes that included a guitar, a violin, a drum set, and a full-sized acoustic piano!

We also offered performances by our faculty and well-prepared students currently enrolled in music lessons at MTMS Gahanna who were recommended by their instructors. We served hamburgers and hot dogs, a cake with a very awesome Michelle Tuesday Music School logo (thanks, Giant Eagle!), chips, cookies, and brownies donated by our favorite new neighbor, Sugardaddy’s.

MTMS Polaris Signage: Day 1

MTMS Polaris is still scheduled to open for lessons and classes the first week of September, with our big Grand Opening event to be held on Sunday afternoon, September 15th. Our contractor has completed the main portion of our interior renovation and obtained occupancy approval from the local Powers That Be.

And finally, finally, after much anticipation… SignCo is installing our exterior sign. We are very excited to unveil the first part of the Michelle Tuesday Music School sign at our Polaris Campus. Enjoy the photos below, and watch for our Day 2 photos, tomorrow. :-)

Peace,

Michelle

Guest Blogger: Dr. Angela Heck-Mueller

Recently, we decided to give “guest blogging” a go.  Occasionally, you may see entries from guest bloggers about topics of their choice.  Our guest blog’s “maiden voyage blogger” is Dr. Angela Heck-Mueller.  She wanted to share a bit of information on an historical piece of music for flute that may be useful to students who wish to perform it.  And, guess what?  This piece is playable for many of her flute students!  Even if you’re not a flautist, however, the work has been transcribed for other instruments, so this article may still be useful whether you play the flute, clarinet, or even the trombone or tuba.  Here is a note from Angela.
Dear Students, Parents, & Staff,
In July 2008 I published the following article in Flute Talk Magazine.  It was intended as a historical performance guide for Robert Schumann’s Three Romances for Flute and Piano.  This information is not only beneficial to flutists studying the piece, but also to those who choose to learn a transcription on his/her own instrument.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Dr. Angela Heck Mueller

Glee Camp 2013

Michelle Tuesday Music School held its third annual Glee Summer Music Camp the week of July 15, 2003. Our summer music camp students, who named themselves “Jem and the Holograms” after the 80’s cartoon featuring a rock-and-roll diva, worked hard all week learning the music and choreography to their popular lineup of songs. The song list was based on the Glee Camp “Let’s Have a Sleepover!” theme of the week:

  • Somebody That I Used to Know (Gotye)
  • Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen)
  • Never Getting Back Together (Taylor Swift)
  • Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Miley Cyrus)

The girls dressed in their jammies and entertained their audience with all the sass and pizzazz worthy of a group of girls at a sleepover. The choreography was killer and the vocals were confident and fun. We are very proud of our Glee Camp divas! Check out photos from MTMS Glee Camp 2013, below: Continue reading “Glee Camp 2013”
