J’aira Culberson-Henry is a rising senior at Otterbein University with a concentration of Music Education. She began playing violin in third grade and continued for over ten years. She attended Hamilton Township High School, which did not have an orchestra, so she played with a community youth orchestra, Urban Strings, for four years, where she currently serves as Urban Strings’ Quarter Notes ensemble conductor with four beginner students who perform frequently. As an instructor with Champion Middle School’s beginner string class, she takes pride in learning various instruments along with the student, showing they are not alone while learning and helping her as an instructor understand their strengths and weaknesses. Her objective goal is to encourage students to find their passion in music. She enjoys seeing students understand the power of music and how it can serve as an outlet for self-expression.
