Community Theatre Love

I have a soft spot for community theatre. I can’t wait to learn more about the local theatre in my new business home, Gahanna. Sadly, based on the lack of activity at the Gahanna Community Theatre website, I fear the organization may be on hiatus or even stagnant. I have reached out to a producer whose contact information I found on the website, so I hope to find the group alive and well and just lacking in recent web updating. If Gahanna Community Theatre is still active, I plan to learn more about the group and offer whatever support I can.

Meanwhile, I already have another community theatre affiliation in my residential hometown of Pickerington: the Pickerington Community Theatre. I have served as music director for two musicals since the theatre’s inception in 2006 – “Nunsense” and “Godspell” – and I loved every minute of both shows. The group has been desperately seeking a suitable performance space, ideally one that allows them to leave a set in place through months of rehearsal and offers plenty of storage space for props, chairs, costumes, and lighting. If you can help them find a good home, please drop a line and let me know.

Sister performing arts, music and theatre naturally go hand in hand. And thus, as I open a music school, I would be remiss if failed to support, promote, and sponsor my local community theatres. So if you have the chance, please check out the Pickerington Community Theatre’s presentation of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” still going on this weekend. The shows are Friday and Saturday (July 30th and 31st) at 8:00 pm and a Sunday matinee (August 1st) at 2:00 pm, at Pickerington Christian Church on Diley Road. You are sure to be entertained, and your ticket purchase helps support the arts in our community.

Lights. Curtain. Action! See you at the show.

UPDATE: Gahanna Community Theatre is very much alive and well. I can’t wait to meet them.
